I'm a highly qualified certified teacher who graduated with honors from Rowan University. My degrees are in both Education and Sociology. Beyond college, I've taken additional teaching and counseling courses in order to further understand and assist my students. I have current teaching certifications in New Jersey and Florida. They allow me to teach Elementary School, Middle School Social Studies, and High School Basic Skills. During my 12 year public school teaching career, I enjoyed teaching all subjects, but developed a particular love for teaching literacy. I therefore began teaching Summer School Remedial Literacy and conducting after school tutoring during the school year. Due to the success of my students, I was asked to complete a year of training to incorporate teaching ESL students. I was happy to do so, and progressed to teaching ESL inclusion, successfully upgrading my skills and classroom to teach both English speaking and ESL/ELL students effectively. I formed many positive relationships with students and parents alike. Some parents also requested my help in order to meet their own Basic Skills and ESL Literacy needs, so I decided to take a course focused on tutoring adults, and learned more strategies specific to meeting adult academic needs. Next, I volunteered to tutor adults at a local literacy agency for almost two years. It's been fun meeting new people, both young children and adults. I find it enjoyable to incorporate student interests and goals into lessons, and am happy to gather materials and create lessons that fit my students' particular needs. Most of all, it's great to celebrate each goal we meet. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, a healthy lifestyle, DIY projects, going to the beac,h and spending time with my young adult children.
