Private tutor in Jacksonville, FL

Education

University of Florida (Starting 2019): Double major in Biology (CLAS) and Environmental Science. Stanton College Preparatory School (Graduating 2015): 4.3 GPA in the IB program, National Merit Scholar, etc.

Experience

I founded a tutoring program called DREAMS that tutored at neighboring middle schools in the area during my upperclassman years of high school. I have an 800 on the SAT Reading section, with a 720 on the writing and 740 on the math sections. However, I have taken many previous "SAT prep courses" and am very well versed in how to strategically take the exam - in short, I can guarantee results if you are below the 700 range (even if you are above that, I will try my best.) The SAT is more of a quiz on I want to be a tutor because I am good at putting things into words and explaining myself, I also consider myself to be an analytical person and this helps me translate things many people find hard into easier terminology. Essentially, I am good at helping people succeed. Also, the flexibility of the hours and the value of the work that tutoring is appeals to me more than simply cleaning a store for minimum wage. I have put myself through the IB track at Stanton College Prep, a very rigorous school. I have taken all the relevant classes that would be necessary to tutor students in English (I have taken both of the AP English classes and also have taken IB English Literature on the Higher Level.) Most importantly, I am a National Merit Scholar (this means I scored above a 210 or so on the PSAT and my score ranks in the top 0.5% in the state of Florida.) This is relevant because it shows that I am appropriately qualified to teach others how to master these tests. As far as impressive items on my resume are concerned, I don't strive to be impressive - I strive to help people. As such, I have founded a tutoring program at my school and also have put in over 300 hours of work at a completely student-run summer camp where I help kids learn how to perform theatre and teach them about philosophy. I am confident in my ability to genuinely help others succeed.

Hobbies

One of my big hobbies is basketball, which I played casually throughout high school (I also picked up lacrosse a year ago and like to play it.) I am a photographer and film student, and so I like creating short instructional films and taking pictures - I also like to study modern culture (this includes politics but also aspects of modern film.) I was inspired to tutor after realizing early in my high school career that I needed to make a change if I wanted to be successful. I started modeling my education after what I saw on instructional Youtube videos (these include PatrickJMT and BozemanScience) and I had to adapt to succeed at the stressful IB level - this made a proficient tutor and more than anything I would love to help others feel the same joy I feel when I study for something and it pays off. Thanks!
