My passion for tutoring began early in my life when I volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged children in East Austin, then I moved on to tutoring students at a private elementary school. After that, I became a tutor for standardized test prep, and finally, a preschool tutor in South Side Chicago. I pride myself on being familiar with a variety of test formats and standardized test questions, especially involving the SAT, Advanced Placement testing, and International Baccalaureate classes. However, I want to emphasize that just memorizing facts for the test is not enough to truly learn new information. I believe it is extremely important for my students to understand why words have their specific meanings, and what mathematical equations depict in the real world. My teaching style focuses on helping students understand the concepts of the particular subject and why they are in place. I also help students with writing skills, which apply to both standardized tests and research papers. I am also fluent in Spanish. I will gladly work on conversational communication with students interested in learning the language. In my downtime from tutoring, I read a lot of mystery books, enjoy creative writing, and participate in charity work.
