Karl Z.
Private tutor in Jacksonville, FL
Education
I have a BA in English from the University of Miami. I completed course work toward a Master's degree at Columbia University in New York.
Experience
I have worked for more than two decades as a journalist and news consultant in cities all over the country. I have worked as a reporter, writer, editor and manager. Now I work as a freelance tutor of English and Study Skills for middle and high school students. I love helping young people understand new concepts and ideas in ways which help them grow and develop into accomplished adults. When I work with students individually, I do not use pre-planned lessons. I assess needs and develop custom tutoring sessions for my student’s maximum benefit. Each student deserves individual attention to their specific learning objectives. One plan does not fit all students. I believe that the teacher/student fit contributes as much to the learning process as the subject matter. I specialize in preparing students for SAT, ACT and FSA tests. I also work with middle school students to prepare them for high school including English and Study Skills. I tutor at my home in Mandarin and my wife, Connie, who is also a tutor, is always present. However I do require an adult chaperon for all minor students until student and parent are comfortable with us.
